When Amanda Guarascio found out about a starving stray dog that has been roaming the Evans Creek campground in Washington, she decided to do her best to rescue him.
Amanda, along with her boyfriend, Dylan Parkinson, came up with a clever plan to catch the dog by appealing to his compassion and then help the poor animal.
“Dylan and I drove up last night after we heard about him, and to our surprise, he was sitting in a little turn-off on the side of the road right where the girl said she had seen him. We spent an hour trying to coax him to us with food but it didn’t get us very far,” Amanda described in her Facebook post. “I got down on the ground with my back to the pup, who we have decided to call Baby Bear and slowly started crawling backwards towards where he was laying.”
Amanda pretended to be hurt and started whimpering, hoping that the dog would come to help her. After a while, Baby Bear started getting closer and closer, which means her idea worked! She got close to him and managed to pick him up.
“I had to carry him everywhere! I had to pick him up and put him in the truck and then we snuggled together until we got to the vet…Where again, I had to carry him inside…all 57 lbs of him!”, Amanda said. It was worth it, however, because Baby Bear soon found his forever home with an amazing family and is healthier than ever. The happy ending for this beautiful animal wouldn’t be possible without Amanda and Dylan’s kindness and cleverness.
