When Instagram launched the ability for people to share 15-second videos, they essentially crippled Vine, a popular video-sharing app. It seems that the company is planning to take over the video space even more, because Instagram is officially upgrading the video feature, and users will soon be able to post minute-long videos to the social network.
“We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you’ll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you’ll see this year,” said the company in a statement.
Until today, only advertising partners and brands had the choice of posting 60-second videos, but soon all users will have that option. Today’s change follows Instagram’s recent update that started showing view counters instead of the number of likes.
It is important to note that certain users will have immediate access to longer videos, while some will gain the option in the next few months. Also, with the latest version of Instagram, iOS users will be able to make a video from several different video clips once again.
